Finding Truth

September 14, 2015 by Ashley Chea

The most valuable asset you have in life is self love and truth. I have found that being 1000 percent honest with myself has allowed me to be much happier in life. Having a honest conversation with yourself about your needs, wants and desires.

I remember being 21 and looking at my past relationship and realizing that I invested way too much time into making something work verses being honest with myself. There are many factors in why we pick mates and who we decide to share our time with emotionally and physically. When we find ourselves being unhappy, the source of that unhappiness is ourselves. We are in complete control of our sanity and happiness. We decide to give others power over us for a host of reasons not limited to but including our childhood, emotional stability, surroundings and self worth. Once we realize that we have complete control over our lives we begin to experience happiness more frequently.

I am getting married in less than a month and I've really been going over how I got to this point. I can remember crying on the floor because my ex didn't want to be with me. I mean why was I crying? I'm amazing, and I don't say that to be rude but I am. So why is it that we find ourselves heartbroken when someone else can't see our value? It's because we somehow have allowed their view of us to become our own. Before I started dating my now fiancé I went on a quest to heal my heart. I promised myself I would put myself first, my emotions, my dreams and my needs.

I spent five months just doing my own thing with no intention to date or even give any parts of myself to someone. I wanted to remember who I was outside of a relationship. What I actually enjoyed doing in my free time and not what I thought someone else wanted me to do. I knew that the next time I started dating that I had to let things happen organically, in a way that honored my spirit and mind but most importantly my emotional health.  Entering into a space that was honest and open for suggestion but never manipulation and control.

My new journey as a wife is approaching and I am going to share the many changes I endured before reaching this level. For today I just want to challenge everyone to have a conversation with themselves. Ask yourself these three questions, these are the questions I asked myself before I decided to start living for me and not others. It is a sometimes lonely road but I promise you, once you commit to living in your truth the creator will place the perfect people to join you on your journey.

1. Am I happy

2. Am I living honestly

3. Am I content or complete?
