Chia Seed Yogurt.
Good Morning everyone, I'm starting my morning off with one of my favorite healthy choices. As you may or may not know I have IBS/Crohn's disease. For the most part it causes inflammation in my intestines. Sometimes causing issues with me digesting food properly. As long as I stay away from dairy, processed foods and wheat/yeast I rarely get sick. Luckily for me I have had a very similar diet my entire life so I haven't had to make much of a change. I never ate dairy growing up unless it was cheese on pizza or in a casserole my mother made. We never drank cows milk or ate any creams or yogurts.
I see my doctor who focuses on western and eastern medicine about once a month. She understands and respects my desire not to take western medicine. I've been lucky enough to really focus on mental and physical health throughout my entire life. So it was a very easy transition into making sure my lifestyle supports me being healthy. I do however suggest you consulting with a doctor who specializes in your condition before transitioning into no medicine. It's very important to understand your limits, possible side effects and risk. One of the things that is really helpful for me and anyone else struggling with digestion is chia seeds. Chia seeds help you maintain a healthy digestive system. They should find their way into at least one meal a day. I use to just pour about 1 tbs of chia seeds in a water bottle, fill it with water and let it sit in the refrigerator over night. I would drink the water bottle in the morning along side some oatmeal. I often get tired of repetition so I'm always thinking of new ways to intake my daily chia seeds. Topping smoothies, oatmeal and yogurt are all obvious choices. Another way is to make a yogurt with the chia seeds that you can eat in the morning or throughout the day. It is something really simple to make and my daughter loves making them for herself in the morning.
What You Need:
3 tbs of chia seeds
1 cup of Almond Milk or Coconut Milk
1/2 tsp of cinnamon
Mix the three ingredients together in a bowl or cup that has a lid. Then sit the mixture in the refrigerator over night with the lid on.
In the morning you can top your yogurt with any fruit you like, just like you would with ones from the store. This morning I used dried cranberries, honey, coconut flakes and mixed berries. You can also eat it plain but I'm not a fan of the taste without toppings. This is one of the healthiest yogurts you could ever eat and extremely helpful for your digestive system.
